Well, if you’re going to start a cookie tin business, and if you’re going to start from the ground up, that is, from manufacturing, to supplying, then let me tell you that it’s going to be hard, and it’s going to take a significant amount of capital. I know that there are a lot of people out there who think cookie tins a trifle, but I suggest that they think again about the whole thing. First you’ll have to get the materials for making the cookie tins, and this means the metal itself, and then, after that, you need to have the machinery in place to form those cookie tins into the different shapes that characterize cookie tins. Shapes like the popular cylinder, the box shape, and the heart shape. And finally, you also need the machines needed to “print” your permanent designs on the cookie tins. Remember, these must be permanent designs that can last just as long as the cookie tin itself. And so it’s no something that you can just do manually. You need machinery for that.
Finally, there’s the complicated process of finding other smaller businesses to supply with your cookie tins, and you need to be able to do this regularly for them. The thing is, a lot of businesses already in existence already have their regular supplier of cookie tins, and these suppliers are probably very well established already. So you have quite a hefty competition to deal with. Your cookie tins need to be competitively priced, in other words, cheap enough to attract the interest of these small time business. An alternative of course, is to put up the baking business yourself, but then you would need to be able to sell as many products to cover the cost of also making your cookie tins. If this is the route you’re going to take, then you must have a good marketing arm in place.
Anyway, we’ve just outlined that advantages and disadvantages of making your own cookie tins. In the end however, it will just boil down to you. What are you willing to do, how much are you willing to invest and sacrifice? And are you really aiming big? These are questions which you can only answer for yourself.
